Businesses deserve great software. Families deserve it even more.

For years, I built software for small businesses at Podium. I loved it. Podium was a big company, but what I loved was who we served. We weren't building faceless enterprise software. We were helping real businesses, the local shops and family-run companies that are the backbone of our communities, communicate better, serve their customers, and grow. That work felt meaningful.

Then I became the father of four boys, and I noticed something I couldn't stop thinking about.

The businesses I served had incredible systems. Shared dashboards. Automated workflows. Clear expectations. Everyone knew what mattered and where they fit. Then I'd come home.

Somewhere along the way, my wife, Marie, had become the operating system for our family. She homeschools our four boys and keeps our home running with a remarkable amount of grace. Every school day, every appointment, every activity, every routine, every meal, every chore, it all came together because she poured an extraordinary amount of thought and effort into making it happen. But almost all of that information lived in two places: her phone, and her head.

Here's what surprised me. I genuinely wanted to help more. But helping usually started with another question.

• “What time is Luke's practice?”
• “What's the plan after church?”
• “Whose turn is it to empty the dishwasher?”
• “Do we have anything tonight?”

By the time I walked in the door, Marie had already spent the whole day answering questions from four little boys. Then I came home and became the fifth. Not because I didn't care, but because she had become the source of truth for everything. She knew the schedule. She knew the routines. She knew what needed to happen next.

The more I sat with it, the more I realized something was backwards. Our family's information didn't belong in one person's head. It belonged to the whole family.

I didn't build Luana because Marie wasn't organized. I built it because she was. She was carrying our family so well that most of us didn't realize how much she was carrying. I didn't want her to have to be the source of all truth anymore. I wanted our home itself to become the source of truth. I wanted to walk in the door, look at one place, and instantly know what was happening, what needed to get done, and where I could jump in, without asking her another question. I wanted our boys to be able to do the same.

The goal was never to replace a great parent. It was to give one a teammate.

That realization changed the direction of my career. I didn't leave because small businesses stopped needing better tools. I left because I came to believe that if real businesses deserved great software, the families we go home to deserve it even more. Not software that competes for a family's attention, but software that quietly gives some of it back.

That became Luana.
