Chore Chart for Teens

A teen chore chart is less about reminders and more about running a shared household between busy schedules. These jobs build the life skills they will need in a first apartment.

What chores fit teens (13–17)

A teen chart has a different job than a kid chart: it is a rehearsal for running a home. Cooking a real meal weekly, owning laundry end to end, closing the kitchen. These are the exact skills that make the first apartment survivable, and teens quietly know it.

The biggest scheduling reality at this age is that school, sports, work, and friends collide with home life. A fixed daily list fights that; a weekly list with deadlines works with it. "Bathroom cleaned by Sunday night" respects their calendar while holding the standard.

Skip the sticker-chart aesthetics. A clean, adult-looking list communicates that you see them as capable, and that tone matters more to teen buy-in than any reward. Tie privileges to follow-through if you need leverage, but lead with trust.

One more thing worth writing down together: what "done" means. Most teen chore conflict is really a definition conflict. Five minutes agreeing on the standard saves a semester of arguments.
